SPRING CLEANING – 5 TIPS FOR CLEANING YOUR WINDOWS
Ladies and Gentlemen, we’ve been eagerly waiting, and it has finally arrived, albeit a few weeks late… we present to you the one and only Spring. Accompanied by sunshine, warmth, and happiness, it reminds us that it’s time to get to work. To enjoy durable and efficient windows (and the beautiful weather), you need to know how to take care of them. Ready? A cloth and mild detergent will be your allies in this mission, and these 5 practical tips will help you along the way.
1. CAULKING AND DRAIN HOLES
It is preferable to check the exterior caulking around your windows in the fall. If you haven’t done so already, take advantage of spring cleaning to check this point.
Pay attention to cracks that need sealing, otherwise, air infiltration could occur.
2. HARDWARE AND WEATHERSTRIPPING
We recommend cleaning your hardware with a damp cloth.
To facilitate the opening and closing of the sashes, apply a silicone-based lubricant (Jig-a-loo®) on the hardware parts (hinges, locks, operators, balances, rollers) and on the weatherstripping.
3. SCREENS
If you haven’t stored your screens for the winter, it’s time to clean them. Wash them with soapy water and a soft cloth.
4. FRAME
Whether it’s for the interior or exterior frame of your window, it is ALWAYS recommended to use dish soap or a mild soap diluted in warm water and then thoroughly dry it with a clean, dry cloth.
CAUTION: Avoid using abrasive products, as they could damage the PVC surface. Also, to avoid damaging your windows, we do not recommend using high-pressure cleaning systems.
5. GLASS
First, remove the bulk of the dirt with a cloth and water. Then, clean your thermoss using a commercial product (e.g., Windex®) and a soft cloth.
TIP: Wait for cloudy days to clean your thermoss. The cleaner will dry more slowly, reducing the chances of streaks appearing compared to a sunny day.
