UNDERSTANDING ENERGY STAR CERTIFICATION IN 3 STEPS
If you’re reading this sentence, it’s probably because you’ve browsed a few pages—or maybe you clicked the link from our Facebook post. Either way, you’ve made a good choice. Now, take the time to read our new article and learn more about ENERGY STAR certification.

STEP 1. What is ENERGY STAR?

Ever wondered about that small blue logo you’ve seen on your appliances or perhaps on your computer screen?

Here’s the answer: It’s the symbol for products that have been certified as highly efficient. This symbol makes it easy to identify products that offer the best energy efficiency on the market. All ENERGY STAR certified products undergo rigorous testing according to technical specifications for energy efficiency.

STEP 2. How to choose the right window?

When it comes to certifying doors and windows, Canada is divided into 3 climate zones (1, 2, and 3) based on an indicator of average annual temperature. Quebec spans zones 2 and 3.

Firstly, determine your climate zone. You can do this by clicking here.

The RE factor is calculated using a formula that establishes a ratio between a product’s heat transfer rate, its solar heat gain coefficient, and its air tightness. In other words, the higher this factor, the more energy-efficient the product is.

You can find this information on labels attached to our display windows at our distributors. To find the distributor nearest you, click here.

STEP 3. Why buy ENERGY STAR certified windows?

To benefit from certification, you generally need to choose windows with energy-efficient glass. This minimizes heat loss and reduces interior condensation. Proper installation will also help reduce your energy consumption and save you money.

There are renovation assistance programs available—be sure to inquire, as you may be eligible for a tax credit.
