3 TIPS TO PREPARE YOUR WINDOWS FOR WINTER
Yes, you guessed it! November, with its shorter days, colder weather, and accumulating snow, inspired the topic of our article. Our three tips will help prepare your windows for the colder temperatures and keep your home warm and cozy.
1. DO A THOROUGH CLEANING
Cleaning your windows is essential for ensuring the proper functioning of the mechanisms (operator, multi-point locking system).
Make sure to use the right products to avoid damaging the PVC finish or hardware components. Avoid abrasive products and opt for soap and a soft cloth instead.
It is advisable to lubricate the mechanisms, hinges, and tracks annually as a preventive measure.
2. STORE YOUR SCREENS
For sliding or double-hung windows, this precaution will prevent damage due to snow accumulation, as the screens for these models are located outside the house. This way, you can extend the lifespan of your screens.
For casement windows, we also recommend storing the screens. The absence of screens will promote air circulation and reduce the risk of condensation. Additionally, keep blinds and curtains open as much as possible to achieve the same beneficial effects regarding condensation.
Once the screens are removed, simply clean and store them.
3. CHECK THE CAULKING AND DRAINAGE HOLES
To reduce heat loss and air infiltration, check the caulking around the outside of your windows. Pay attention to any cracks that need sealing.
Additionally, make sure the drainage holes in your windows are not obstructed. Their proper functioning is necessary to ensure water drainage.
